Class Descriptions Kerri's Bio
Kerri has been performing for her entire life. Her style is eclectic, building from her foundation of classical and modern dance and acrobatics, adding depth from Butoh, height from aerial acrobatics, and spice from African, Hip-Hop, Bellydance, and Funk. This has given Kerri a very unique look and approach to movement. Kerri has performed in shows all over the world including the New Pickle Circus and MTV’s “My Super Sweet Sixteen.” She is a co-founder and performer in San Francisco’s world-class, home grown group, Sweet Can Circus. She makes a living performing her aerial tissu and double straps acts, dancing, playing percussion, stilt-walking, and teaching at the SF Circus Center. ACRODANCE
For acrobats who want to dance and dancers who want to do acrobatics.
This workshop will weave together dance and acrobatics techniques exploring a new level of approaching movement.
Warm up consists of basic dance technique pulling from ballet, contemporary, release and improvisation.
We will also warm up the acrobatic body with core strengthening, alignment and stretching. Each class students will
learn movement phrases and choreography to music combining the elements from the warm up. Basic dance and/or acro training
is highly recommended.
ESSENTIALS OF AERIAL ACT BUILDING
ROPE, TISSU, TRAPEZE, HOOP, or STRAPS
This workshop will give tools to find and develop your own style and artistry on your apparatus of choice. Be prepared to do
movement exercises that will test your comfortability and perceived personal limits. We will NOT work on learning new "tricks".
You must have a minimum of 3 tricks comfortably on your apparatus. Some students will end with a finished act. Some may simply have
a new sense of moving on their equipment. It is up to you.
YOGABATICS
Yogabatics is a blend of Yoga and Acrobatics and the many ways the two techniques directly compliment each other. The class will flow
like a yoga class, integrating vinyasas and focusing on asanas that strengthen and stretch the body in preparation for acrobatics--building more
connection and awareness of the body working as a whole. We will work on balancing on hands, head and feet, stretching, backbending, and some
surprises. All levels are welcome.
TISSU SEQUENCING
We will not learn new "tricks" in this class, but we will learn new tools to make your tricks unique. Learn to make transitions that link your skills together to make a flowing sequence. Learn when to slow down and pose, and when to move. Learn how to use musicality, dynamics, and personality to find your own style. We will go beyond the linear tricks to discover the ART in the aerial arts.
